Our ECR2P Co-Director, Dr Cristina Stefan, was invited to participate in two events in New York recently. The first was The 49th United Nations Issues Conference, entitled “Lessons Learned in Atrocity Prevention”, co-organized by The Stanley Foundation, The UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect, and The Columbia Global Policy Initiative, which took place in Tarrytown, New York, March 21–23, 2018. This relates to Dr Cristina Stefan’s contribution towards the Atrocity Prevention Project undertaken by the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the R2P.

The two-day expert workshop brought together UN officials, analysts and academics to discuss the project’s evaluation and lessons learning for Atrocity Prevention. The workshop ended with a discussion of recommendations for the UN Secretary-General’s 2018 Responsibility to Protect report. The second – and related - event, entitled “Making Atrocity Prevention Effective”, took place at Columbia University on March 26th, 2018.
